Moses Fleetwood "Fleet" Walker Day Celebration

On Saturday, October 7, the Toledo Mud Hens in partnership with the Toledo Chapter of Jack & Jill of America will celebrate Moses Fleetwood "Fleet" Walker Day for the very first time at Fleetwood's Tap Room. After several attempts, a bill designating one day a year in Ohio to honor the first black man to play major league baseball was approved unanimously in the state Senate and is on its way to Gov. John Kasich’s desk. The governor's signature will make October 7, Walker's Birthday, Moses Fleetwood "Fleet" Walker Day each year in the state of Ohio. 

The goal of this first year event will be to send 50 children from Toledo to baseball camp at Fifth Third Field. Donations will be accepted at the door will benefit the Toledo Chapter of Jack & Jill of America and Helping Hens Charitable Fund. 

Jack and Jill of America, Inc., is a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2 – 19, dedicated to nurturing future African American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty.
