Good times will be brewing during Fall Fleetfest – A Night Circus: 10/29

Celebrate local craft beer, Halloween and Moses Fleetwood Walker at Fall Fleetfest – A Night Circus on Saturday, October 29!

In addition to the craft beer, Hensville Park and the Fleetwood Building will be transformed into a multi-level Halloween party featuring Birds Eye View Circus and their incredible lineup of acrobats, jugglers, stilt walkers, fire-eaters, hoop performers and more.

Revelers (21 & up!) are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite vaudeville-style or Halloween costume.  The Night Circus theme is red, white and black.

Fleetfest

A quarterly event to celebrate Toledo Region breweries and the Tap Room’s more than 100 local, regional and national craft beers and the 50 plus domestic spirits. This signature series of events hosted by Fleetwood’s Tap Room gives beer lovers and novices alike the chance to sample a lineup of beers provided by two Toledo region breweries: Black Cloister Brewing Company and Maumee Bay Brewing.

Moses’ Acquittal

Black Cloister will feature in its lineup, Moses’ Acquittal, a signature beer brewed specifically for Fleetwood’s Tap Room’s namesake, Moses Fleetwood Walker.

Moses’ Acquittal is a Brown Ale with a moderate malt sweetness, caramel character and a medium dry finish. As you drink, the complexity of the beer comes out in nutty and toasted flavors finishing with light chocolate character.

Moses Fleetwood Walker

Moses Fleetwood Walker, a University of Michigan grad and catcher for the Toledo Blue Stockings, is the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball.  He signed with the Blue Stockings in 1883.   At the beginning of the 1884 season, the American Association (which later became the modern-day American League) formed and added the Blue Stockings to its franchise. On May 1, 1884, Moses Fleetwood Walker took the field and officially broke the color barrier of MLB.

In April of 1891, in an act of self-defense, Walker stabbed and killed a man by the name of Patrick Murray. A jury acquitted him of second-degree murder.
